A valuable resource for all of our patients is our biopsy clinic. Our physician assistant, Kelley Powers, performs skin biopsies to help guide rheumatic diagnoses and treatment plans. Often times we encounter cases where the skin offers clues to ongoing disease processes. Ask your rheumatology provider if a skin biopsy could be helpful for you.

As many of you know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Camelot Print and Copy Centers, the local printing company that we use here at TCFR, created a campaign to raise money that will go towards research for breast cancer. More than 100 rheumatology patient advocates, including physicians, health professionals and patients took to Capitol Hill in early September for The American College of Rheumatology’s (ACR) annual Advocates for Arthritis event. Advocates called on legislators to support bills that would reform insurance company medication trial policies (ie: step therapy or “fail first”) and address the rheumatology workforce shortage which jeopardizes timely access to patient care.
Dr. Farrell once said, “with rare conditions like systemic sclerosis, every aspect of medical care can be met with a roadblock, especially when it comes to insurance coverage for medication.” Now one less roadblock for this patient population exists. In recognition of her efforts, the Scleroderma Foundation awarded her the 2019 Doctor of the Year. Congratulations Dr. Farrell!
TCFR is happy to announce that Dr. Aixa Toledo-Garcia has recently been trained and obtained her certification in Regenerative Medicine. Dr. Toledo will soon be providing Prolotherapy and PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) therapy.
